Commercial work is a scheduling problem as much as a surfacing one

On a domestic drive the worst inconvenience is parking on the street for three days. On a commercial site, closing the car park costs you trade every hour it's shut, and a yard that floods in November stops deliveries altogether. So we plan commercial jobs backwards from your operating hours, not forwards from ours.

That usually means phasing — half the car park at a time, with signed routes kept open — or working evenings and weekends. It costs a little more in labour and saves considerably more in lost trading.

The build-up matters more here too. A domestic drive carries a car; a delivery yard carries an 18-tonne rigid on the same three metres of ground every morning. We specify the sub-base depth and surfacing to the actual vehicle loads, and we'd rather tell you the honest number than win the job on a domestic rate you'll pay for twice.

  • Sub-base and surfacing specified to your actual vehicle loadings, not a domestic rate
  • Phased or out-of-hours programmes so the site keeps trading
  • Drainage sized properly — gullies, channel drains and soakaways designed in, not added later
  • Licensed to work on the public highway for commercial vehicle crossings
  • Line marking, bay layouts, accessible bays and bollards on completion
  • Waste carried away under transfer notes to a licensed tip
WHAT WE'RE ASKED FOR

Six kinds of commercial job

All of it can be phased so you're never fully closed.

WHO WE WORK FOR

Local businesses, landlords and managing agents

We're a Mansfield firm, so most of our commercial work is within half an hour of the yard — which matters when a defect needs looking at during trading hours.

Commercial questions

Anything not covered, ring us and ask for a site visit. All FAQs.

Can you work outside our opening hours?

Yes — evenings, weekends and bank holidays. It adds labour cost but usually costs far less than closing a car park during trading. We'll price both so you can compare.

Can the car park stay open while you work?

Almost always. We phase the work in sections with signed and coned routes kept open, and agree the sequence with you before we start. Full closure is only necessary for surfacing large continuous areas in one pour.

Do you provide RAMS and insurance documents?

As standard, before we start on site. Public liability cover, risk assessments, method statements, waste carrier licence and highway licensing where the job touches the public footway.

How do you price commercial work?

Against your drawings or measured areas, itemised by phase, so you can see what each element costs and drop or defer anything. Rates per m² fall significantly on larger areas — ask us to price the whole site rather than one section at a time.

Do you take on subcontract work for main contractors?

Yes, we work as a groundworks and surfacing subcontractor on larger schemes. Send the tender pack and programme and we'll price against it.

Is commercial work guaranteed too?

Yes — the same five year workmanship guarantee applies, on top of any manufacturer warranties on materials. See our guarantee page for what's covered.
